FORNEY (1080 KRLD) - Looking for a new pen pal? You might want to check in with your local Senior Care Communities.

Some Senior Living Communities in North Texas are asking for hand written notes to lift the spirits or residents who have been quarantined for months because of COVID-19.

The Ridgecrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Forney launched a Pen Pal Program online, posting photos of residents on Facebook along with topics of conversation they're interested in.

Tim Peiman, Administrator at Ridgecrest, says the letters make a huge difference in resident morale.

"It's really been amazing," Peiman says. "I think it touches them for people to take the time to write them, communicate with them, it really goes a long way. It means a lot."

Ridgecrest isn't the only facility searching for pen pals, either. Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Waxahachi is seeking letters for a similar program.

Amanda Barron is executive director there. She says the residents don't need much.

“Just small thoughts of encouragement," she says. “Giving them something to look forward to by running to the mailbox and checking to see if they got a letter. I mean, some residents check their mailboxes and never have anything in them.”

Letters can be sent to the following addresses:

    Ridgecrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center
561 East Ridge Crest Road, Forney, Texas 75126

Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care
1329 Brown St, Waxahachie, TX 75165
