AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - With Austin's South By Southwest cancelled over coronavirus fears, some are worried the event may not survive at all.

On Friday, South By Southwest announced it was canceled after the city of Austin declared a state of emergency due to coronavirus even though only a relative handful of cases have cropped up in Texas.

Then it turned out the event had no insurance for such a contingency. Terrorism, yes. Natural disaster? Sure.

Apparently no one thought about a virus bringing down the whole thing.

With the loss of revenue from the cancellation, observers in Austin are really wondering where the money will come from to stage SXSW next year.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler, whose proclamation sank the event, seems to be confident it can make a comeback.
