DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Construction is underway on some of the projects that will help re-shape RedBird Mall in Dallas. Crews are building a new apartment complex and preliminary work has begun on a new health clinic.

"What we're doing is turning this into a live-work-play development that satisfies the needs and desires of today's consumers and workers, but brings back that original Red Bird spirit," said Peter Brodsky, the majority owner of the site. "The benefit of having this be an active place is that it serves the community. This development is not intended to serve other communities and ask them to come visit here, although all are welcome. This development is intended to serve the people who live in southern Dallas."

Palladium USA announced plans last year to build a four-story apartment complex with 300 units on the site, and work started in November. Parkland Hospital is working on a new clinic in the space previously used by Dillard's. UT Southwestern has announced plans for a new medical center in the development.

"We are currently renovating the former Dillard’s. We expect that Parkland will be open and in that Dillard's by late 2020, maybe early 2021," said Brodsky. "For U-T Southwestern...we're at the very, very beginning of the process. We just announced it in December, so we're going through a design process now. It will be late 2021 when they get in."

The mall already is home to a call center operated by a company based in Atlanta with 500 employees. A Starbucks that opened at RedBird in 2018 is also doing well. "There is demand for quality," Brodsky said.
