DALLAS (KRLD) - A two-year-old child was recovered un-injured after a standoff between a gun-wielding suspect and Dallas County Sheriff's Deputies in Wilmer.

Police in Wilmer were called to the Emily at Liberty Crossing Apartments shortly after 3:00am on Wednesday for a report a man firing a gun inside one of the apartments. He was identified as 24-year-old Marcus Williams. Deputies say a woman in the apartment with Williams was able to escape with a one-year-old child, but had to leave a two-year-old child behind. "The reason she wasn't able to get him out is because he (Williams) had him in his arms when he started discharging the weapon," said Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy Raul Reyna.

The SWAT team tried to negotiate with Williams, but he did not respond to any of their attempts to communicate. After several hours, Detective Reyna said, "they went ahead and made entry into the apartment and located the two-year-old un-harmed. They also located the subject inside the residence deceased of what we believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

The two-year-old was taken to the hospital for an examination as a precaution.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation into the case.
