DALLAS (KRLD) - Police say a Dallas Animal Services officer has been arrested after throwing a kitten.

A city statement says Eric Pogue threw the kitten during the intake process because the four-week-old kitten bit him.

They claim the "kitten suffered severe trauma during the incident and was nonresponsive as a result."

Authorities say the kitten was euthanized.

Dallas Animal Services told the SPCA of Texas about the incident. Their detectives are handling the investigation.

Pogue faces a third-degree felony charge for cruelty to a non-livestock animal. His bail was set at $15,000. He has since bonded out.

Pogue has been placed on administrative leave.
