DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas is in line for another area code to overlay the existing area codes of 214, 972, and 469. The North American Number Planning Administrator has told state regulators that those area codes could run out of available numbers by the middle of 2021.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas is reviewing a petition to add a new area code for Dallas and the surrounding area to accommodate the region's growing population.

People can submit their comments on the proposal through November 16th by writing to the Public Utility Commission of Texas, 1701 North Congress Avenue, P.O. Box 13326, Austin, Texas 78711-3326.

The proposed new area code would cover all of Dallas and Rockwall Counties, most of Collin and Ellis Counties, and parts of Denton, Tarrant and Kaufman Counties. It would overlay the existing area codes and customers would keep their existing phone numbers.

The last area code added to Dallas was 469, which was implemented in 1999.
