DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - New Years Eve gunfire killed a Dallas family's puppy and Cristina Montoya still can't understand it.

Montoya's family had just gone to bed when they heard an outburst of gunshots fired into the air as neighbors apparently "celebrated" the new year.

One of those many bullets returned to Earth and struck the family's six-month-old dog, killing her.

NBC-5 reports that Dallas police got about a thousand gunfire calls in four hours on New Years Eve.

Naturally, there are laws against discharging a firearm in the city limits but catching the shooters is next-to-impossible because bullets may come back down miles from where they were fired.
