DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas Area Rapid Transit is changing service Saturday for the Texas-Oklahoma football game at the Cotton Bowl. The "Red River Showdown" has been taking place at Fair Park since 1929.

The State Fair of Texas is opening gates early, at 7 a.m. Saturday. Gates at the Cotton Bowl open at 9, and kick-off is at 11 a.m. DART is telling people to plan for larger crowds than usual from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. and says people who make transfers should start trips at least an hour earlier than usual.

DART will run trains earlier than usual, starting at 7 a.m. Volunteers will also be standing at stations to answer questions from visitors who do not use DART regularly.

"It's all hands on deck," says DART's Mark Ball. "It's an experience for a number of people. You have our regular riders who have the weekend available, so they're familiar with how DART works. They just hop right on board. But we also get the tourists, and maybe they know, maybe they don't know how to use rapid transit."

The volunteers will be able to answer questions about how to use the system and give directions. DART is urging regular riders to plan an extra hour for the spike in travelers.

"We recommend that people do leave early in anticipation of the extra ridership as well as any possible delays that may occur as a result of that ridership increase," he says.

DART will make changes to the Green and Orange lines on Saturday.

Southbound Green Line trains will bypass Victory Station and stop at Union Station. Then they will continue non-stop to MLK Station, south of Fair Park, and resume their usual routes.

DART will run a special "Fair Park" line starting at Union Station and making all stops downtown, in Deep Ellum and at Baylor before arriving at Fair Park.

Northbound Green Line trains will operate on their normal schedule, but they will not stop at Fair Park.

Orange Line trains will only operate between DFW Airport and Bachman. Passengers will need to transfer to the Green Line at Bachman.

Users can also use the "GoPass" app to buy tickets ahead of time. GoPass users can also buy tickets to the State Fair at a $2 discount.

Information about any delays or issues is available at dart.org. People can also sign up for updates by texting DARTTXOU to 41411.
