DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - With less people using using public transportation, DART buses have taken on a new role.

Starting today, DART is delivering busloads of food to students in the Dallas ISD, with the first bus set to deliver at Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center.

From now on, the buses will make food deliveries every Thursday as needed. The meals will be delivered to three locations: Thurgood Marshall, Janie Turner Recreation Center and Highland Hills Branch Library.

Each bus carries 1,500 meals— enough for 100 students to receive 15 meals.

With layoffs and school closures ... many families are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table. DART officials say they’re just using their assets to help North Texans in a particularly difficult time.
