DESOTO (1080 KRLD) - Police in DeSoto have arrested a man for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.

20-year-old Matthew Shane Gonzalez was taken into custody Tuesday after police say, Mason Varela, 21, identified him as her killer before she died.

Officers got a 911 call Monday evening to a home on Greenbrook Drive and found a woman with stab wounds.

Varela's family discovered her in a pool of blood with cuts to her face. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Pete Schulte with police says Varela told her step-father, "it was Matthew" before she passed away.

Investigators identified Gonzalez as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was located today in Irving and taken into custody.

He's been charged with murder and is behind bars on a $1 million bond.
