DPS Trooper Dies Five Months After Being Shot In Line Of Duty

AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - A DPS trooper is dead five months after being shot in the line of duty. Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw issued a statement announcing the death of Trooper Moises Sanchez, who was shot while working a traffic accident in McAllen five months ago.

Since then, Trooper Sanchez had undergone numerous surgeries and was reportedly improving.

On the evening of April 6th, Sanchez responded to a two vehicle crash in Edinburg/McAllen. The driver of one of the cars, 24 year old Victor Godinez fled on foot and during the chase shot Sanchez in the head and shoulder.

Godinez will now face capital murder charges. Sanchez is survived by a wife and three children. He was 49.
