FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Early voting is underway in the Fort Worth bond election.

Assists City Manager Jay Chapa says the $399.5 million bond package is spread out across many of the city’s needs.

“Staff put together $1.6 billion in needs that had to be whittled down based on our capacity for the bonding.

“It runs the gamut from park projects, community centers, a police station, a couple fire stations (and) a library,” Chapa says.

Transportation is a major component of the bond package — especially in far north Fort Worth.

“There are 14 arterials in the overall package,” Chapa says. “11 of those arterials are in the area from 820 north.”

Chapa points out that that area is seeing tremendous growth in both population and industry — and it wasn’t originally designed with such a boom in mind.

“The explosion has happened in areas that were before just served by county roads,” Chapa says. “So we’ve got to improve some of those roads — make them wider, better intersections (and) those kind of things.”

Early voting runs through May 1. Election Day is May 5th.
