DALLAS (KRLD) - An 84-year-old Central Texas woman has been charged with murder in the death of her husband 35 years ago.

Johnnie Albritton was shot dead in May of 1984 entering his Leon County home. The case was first investigated as a murder during a burglary in progress as there was a lot of things in disarray in the house.

Sheriff Kevin Ellis helped open the case again in 2015. He even reached out to the TV show Cold Justice and assigned two investigators exclusively to help figure out who killed Albritton.

He assigned two investigators to the case for six to eight days. Cold Justice came in for eight days.

"Long days, 16, 18 hour days for eight days. Doing interviews all over the state of Texas, going around and getting these people that were in the area at the time in 1984 and had information on the case."

He says the new information added to the old information led to the indictment of Johnnie's widow Normal Albritton on June 27th.  She was arrested July first in Palestine and taken to the Leon County jail.  She bonded out on the third.

He says she didn't seem confused and didn't confess or deny the crime.
