DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - With so many of us working from home, many people are using computer software they're unfamiliar with. Experts say ... that's exactly what hackers are counting on.

"There're several things we should be on the lookout for," said Dr. Mitch Thornton, Executive Director of the Darwin Deason Institute for Cyber Security at SMU. "There's a big increase in fake websites and fake emails that contain what we call phishing attacks-- which are links that the user may click on, and would cause bad software to be downloaded to their computer."

Thornton says "Zoom Bombing" has also been a problem. Hackers have been shutting down online meetings by using video to overload Zoom's system and during conference calls.

Thornton says adding your own network to your company's network can also cause issues, no matter how secure the networks are.

His advice? Just be on the lookout, make sure your settings are secure ... and be cautious.
