DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A former Dallas police officer was found not guilty in connection with the shooting death of a woman three years ago.

A Dallas County jury found former Dallas police officer Christopher Hess not guilty of unnecessary use of deadly force Thursday.

Hess was charged with aggravated assault by a public servant for firing more than a dozen shots into a car, killing 21-year old Genevive Dawes.

The shooting happened near I-30 and Munger in January of 2017.

A second officer fired one shot, he was not indicted. Police reports say officers thought the car was stolen.

Hess claimed he thought he was in jeopardy because Dawes had backed into his squad car.

Hess was fired by the Dallas Police Department following an investigation.
