FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth Independent School District says it is developing precautionary measures to respond to potential cases of coronavirus.

The district has sent a message to parents, saying it has updated its "Know the Plan" page with information about the virus.

"FWISD is taking this health threat very seriously and continuing to monitor schools," the district says.

Fort Worth ISD says school nurses and campus administrators will use existing processes to track illnesses. They will disinfect schools and notify Tarrant County Public Health, parents and staff of any outbreaks.

The district says the same precautions that protect against the spread of coronavirus are used to combat seasonal flu. Anytime a student is feeling sick, the district says they should stay home.

"Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of all students and staff," the district says.

Fort Worth ISD says it will continue working with Tarrant County Public Health and the Texas Department of State Health Services on what additional steps could be taken if coronavirus appears locally.
