FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A new mural painted on the side of a tattoo parlor in South Fort Worth honors Spc.Vanessa Guillen, the 20-year-old Fort Hood Soldier who went missing in April.

Attorney Natalie Khawam says the remains found last week near Fort Hood belong to the missing soldier. Khawam says Vanessa Guillen was killed by a fellow soldier, who then took his own life.

The family says her remains were found last week and identified Sunday.

More than 20 artists came together yesterday to honor Guillen with the mural. Juan Velasquez helped with the project.

“I just thought to myself, 'What can I do you know,'” Velasquez said. “As an artist, I can paint, I can do a mural and I started to think of a project.”

Dozens of artists decided to join in, with even more onlookers standing by to watch.

At the end of the day, folks gathered around the mural and held a vigil in honor of Guillen and other victims of sexual violence.
