FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Starting Thursday, the Fort Worth Public Library will be collecting donations of personal protective equipment on behalf of the city.

Folks can drop off items from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays through April 1.

The items that the library will be looking for are:

• Hand Sanitizer (of all sizes)

• Antibacterial Soap

• N95 Masks

• Surgical Masks

• Surgical Caps

• Foot/Shoe Covers

• Industrial Masks

• Disinfectant Wipes

• Medical Latex Free Gloves

• Eye Protection Goggles

• Medical Face Shields

• Flocked swabs

• Powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) and PAPR hoods

• Medical Protective Gowns (water-resistant)

• Disposable Food Grade Gloves

• Thermometers (non-contact digital)

"We want only supplies that are new," says Manya Shorr, director of the Fort Worth Public Library. "And if they are supplies that normally come in a box, we want them to be in a box."

Regardless of the good intent, that means no homemade surgical masks.

"I know that there are people making masks inside their homes," says Shorr. "(That's) not something that our first responders in our medical community want or need right now."

The equipment is being collected for the people who need it most.

"That would be our hospitals, our clinics, our shelters, our first responders, police, fire and MedStar," Shorr says.

The items can be dropped off at the following locations:

• East Regional Library, 6301 Bridge St.

• Northwest Branch Library, 6228 Crystal Lake Drive

• Southwest Regional Library, 4001 Library Lane

• Summerglen Branch Library, 4205 Basswood Blvd.
