DALLAS (KRLD) - New signs are going up at four schools in the Dallas ISD that were named after Confederate figures.

The school board voted last year to re-name schools named after Robert E. Lee, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Albert Sydney Johnston and William L. Cabell. The Dallas ISD school board by-passed its normal process for re-naming facilities to fast-track the changes.

The new names were selected by the communities surrounding each school and approved by the school board.

Crews installed new signs at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School this week with the new name of the campus, Mockingbird Elementary. The new name becomes official on July 1st. Dallas ISD officials say the total cost for the new signage at all four campuses should be less than $150,000.
