Vigil for teen killed by drunk driver

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Several hundred people attended a vigil outside North Side High School in Fort Worth Monday night for the 17 year old killed by a suspected drunk driver on Thanksgiving. Benjamin Castaneda was a senior at North Side High School.

Castaneda was driving on Loop 820 in North Richland Hills Thanksgiving morning when police say another driver started going the wrong way. They say Neomi Martinez, 29, hit Castaneda's car and two others.

Castaneda was killed; two others were hurt. Martinez has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

"Drinking and driving, I think that's something everyone should really take to heart," Castaneda's father, Benjamin Castaneda Sr., told the crowd.

Castaneda played in a mariachi band, which played at the vigil, and the people attending released balloons while saying, "We love you, Ben."

"Our little Ben, my boy, our kid. He was our friend. It's going to really hurt not watching him grow," Castaneda Sr. said.

"We will always remember Ben to be that smiling kid who was always full of life and happy to be here," Ramon Nino, the director of the mariachi band, said.
