RHOME (1080 KRLD) - A Wise County girl accidentally strangled herself with a necklace earlier this week.

Paramedics were called to a home in Rhome, about halfway between Fort Worth and Decatur, on Wednesday night.

"The appearance is that this girl had strangled herself with a necklace that was hanging on the door to her room on a doorknob," says Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin.

Investigators say it appears that Hadley Burns, 7, may have been using the necklace to imitate something she had just seen on television.

"She was watching a show about horses that night," says Sheriff Akin, "and she tended to on occasion try to fashion a halter on her brother."

Hadley was first rushed to Wise Health System in Decatur before being transferred to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon.

"All indications at this moment (are that) the evidence points towards it was just a tragic accident," Akin says. "At this moment we don't believe any criminal activity took place, but the investigation is ongoing."
