DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Gov. Greg Abbott turned out in Deep Ellum today for the grand opening ceremony of Uber’s new Dallas headquarters.

“The story of Uber is much like the story of Texas itself,” Abbott said during the ceremony. “Pioneers of new frontiers searching for the land of opportunity.”

Also at the ceremony were Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who said Uber and Dallas share similar goals.

“That spirit of building and innovating is a spirit that we felt is strong in Texas and is certainly strong in Dallas,” Khosrowshahi said.

The grand opening also served as a groundbreaking ceremony—  while the regional hub is now open, construction is just beginning on a 22-story tower planned to be built beside it. In total, the new hub is expected to bring over 3,000 new jobs to the area.
