FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Essential employees in Tarrant County now have their own online search engine to find child care.

It's called the Find! Child Care tool.

"It's essentially a search engine for families that can help them find available open seats and child care programs," says Kara Waddell, CEO of Child Care Associates, which helped put the program together.

Currently, the program is open to essential employees as defined in Tarrant County's emergency declaration.

"Parents can search by the age of their child, by their work address or by their home address," says Waddell. "And it'll map it for them and show them how many minutes from their work or home they can find available childcare that's open for business during this COVID period."

Currently, there are about 7,700 spots available throughout Tarrant County.

"We have over 50% of our licensed childcare programs in Tarrant County that have indicated that they're open," Waddell says. "Many are considering extended hours so they can help with those that have late night shifts, the overnight shift or even weekends."

The program is the result of a collaboration by many entities.

"Child Care Navigators, Child Care Associates, Campfire, Educational First Steps, and Workforce all worked together to develop this in a really short time, about two weeks," says Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price. "It's an amazing platform. They put it together in such a short time. I'm really proud of what they've done."

All participating child care facilities are practiving social distancing.

"Every classroom is being asked to keep to no more than 10 persons per classroom, including children and adults," says Waddell."
