DALLAS (KRLD) - Crews from Dallas Fire-Rescue and the city's Office of Emergency Management have finished surveying the neighborhoods hit by the tornado Sunday night. They found 104 homes or buildings were destroyed and 286 with major structural damage. Nearly 500 homes or buildings had less serious damage.

The city is hiring outside contractors to help clear away storm debris. Six of those crews started work on Tuesday and another four will start work today. Crews from the city's Sanitation Services department will collect trash today from neighborhoods they could not reach on Monday.

The city's Public Works department is working on a 24-hour schedule to clean up tree limbs or other storm debris blocking city streets. However, city officials estimate that job could take about two weeks.

Atmos Energy has shut off 363 gas meters and repaired 9 leaks. Their crews will conduct a survey from a helicopter today to search for any more leaks.
