Hunt County Native Gunned Down By Home Intruder In Michigan

A Hunt County native has been identfied as the father who killed defening his family from a home intruder in Michigan over the weekend. 

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff confirms that Christopher Neal was shot to death on Sunday when a man broke into his home. 

A Kalamazoo TV station reports that Neal was held hostage during a police stand-off. It's not clear when, during that time, he was murdered.

Neal's wife and their toddler daughter were hiding  in another room for what the Sheriff calls "40 minutes of mayhem." 

The killer was arrested and remains jailed.

Three police officers were wounded during the impasse but are expected to recover.

Neal was from Quinlan. He and his young family only recently moved to Michigan to be closer to his wife's family.
