DALLAS (KRLD) - A four-time illegal immigrant has been deported after admitting he killed a Fort Worth businessman. The family is furious the killer was let go after time-served.

31-year old Juan Meraz was in federal prison serving time for his fourth illegal entry when Fort Worth police were finally able to tie him to a cold case murder from 2007.

Meraz killed Fort Worth auto repair shop owner Jose Munoz. He stood trial for murder but the jury was unable to reach a verdict. Two months ago the Munoz family got, what they say was devastating news. Rather than retry the case, Meraz was allowed to plead to a manslaughter charge for time served and deported again.

He was let go right away so he got deported." said Viviana Munoz-Cardoso, daughter of the victim. "He wasn't held to the six months like we were told and the family is really devastated."

She worries there is nothing to stop Meraz from getting in the country illegally a fifth time and hurting someone else.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's office has not responded to several attempts to get a comment.
