Jury Selection Begins For Man Arrested In String Of Sexual Assaults, Burglaries Near UNT

DALLAS (KRLD) - Jury selection begins today in the trial of a Denton man suspected in a string of burglaries and sexual assaults near the University of North Texas campus.

KRLD's L.P. Phillips reports 33-year-old Earl Thompson is facing three charges of burglary with the intent to commit other crimes. Police say those other crimes were sexual assaults.

Thompson had been on the short list of suspects for assaults in both Denton and Dallas when he was busted last year.

In an interview with NBC 5 back in June of 2017, Thompson said he was glad he got caught, and that he needs help.

Prosecutors say the sexual assaults are elements that have to be proven in order to convict Thompson of the upgraded burglary charges, which actually carry a heftier penalty than sexual assault.

Thompson is also facing two other attempted burglary charges.
