DENTON (KRLD) - A Denton jury has given a man the maximum sentence for the shooting death of a former Denton Guyer high school football player.

The jury found Hanyel Leon Gomez guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of DeAndre Wilson back in December. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday.

Earlier this week, the jury rejected the prosecution's suggestion that Gomez committed murder when he killed Wilson outside the former bar known as The Library.

The two men had been in a fight and Gomez says he was defending himself when he killed Wilson.
