DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Laredo man now faces federal charges after an attack on a Dallas woman in the garage of the Statler Hotel.

Dallas Police say it was David Cadena who severely beat a woman and stole her car back in September in downtown Dallas. But Cadena twice bonded out of Dallas County Jail after being charged by the state with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery.

Now Cadena has been charged via federal criminal complaint with carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury.

Cadena is accused of violently pulling 27-year-old Joanna King out of her car, then using a fire extinguisher to beat her into a coma, leaving her unconscious on the pavement.

Cadena was arrested after he crashed King’s car inside the garage. He was combative and heavily intoxicated, according to first responders.

If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 25 years in federal prison
