DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A restaurant is teaming up with hospitals across the state to bring free meals to doctors and nurses.

With locations in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, The Rustic decided to let customers donate sandwiches to nearby hospital workers ... and whatever is donated ... the restaurant will match. So far, they’ve given free meals to 4,000 nurses and doctors across Texas.

"So a lot of hospital workers who have been busting their butts to keep us safe had a little reprieve by getting lunch dropped off to them," said Kyle Noonan, who helped spearhead the project. "Which, you know, obviously makes them feel a little bit better, and it makes us feel a little better."

Noonan says The Rustic's original goal was 1,000 sandwiches. Since they blew that out of the water— the donation initiative is being extended. As a reward and a thank you, Noonan says he's be releasing the recipe to The Rustic's most popular menu item online.
