MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - With less than three months before his recall election, McKinney City Councilman La'Shadion Shemwell is going to court to put a stop to it.

Political opponents of Shemwell got enough petition signatures to force a recall vote on May 2nd.

Among their complaints is a statement from Shemwell that North Texas is under a "black state of emergency" due to several high-profile police shootings where blacks were killed.

Shemwell objects to the fact that the recall will be voted on by all McKinney residents, pointing out he was elected only the voters in his own district.

Believing the recall should also be limited to his district, Shemwell has filed in federal court to acquire a temporary restraining order.
