DALLAS (KRLD) - The Mesquite Independent School District is adopting new security measures for its after-school events, effective Friday, January 31st.

Several of the procedures are similar to those adopted by the Dallas ISD following a deadly shooting at a high school basketball game between two DISD schools earlier this month.

The Mesquite ISD will require all students, including those who do not attend the Mesquite ISD, to present their student ID to enter any event. The district is also banning backpacks at those events. Entry to basketball games will be blocked after the start of the fourth quarter. A statement from the MISD notes that additional measures are under consideration.
