Mesquite Schools No Longer On Lockdown After Shots Reportedly Fired

UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: All three schools have been lifted from lockdown status, the school district says in a tweet. 

The school district later added on Twitter that Thompson and Horn students would be released at their campuses while Terry Middle School students are being sent to can be picked up at 2300 block of Edwards Church Road.

The district is asking for patience as it could take several hours to complete the pickup process. 

Mesquite ISD also says an incident outside the middle school was the cause of the lockdown.

MESQUITE (KRLD) - Three Mesquite schools were placed on lockdown Friday after shots were reportedly fired outside Terry Middle School in the 2300 block of Edwards Church Road.

The shots fired report hasn't been confirmed yet. 

The school district said in a later tweet that Terry Middle School has now been evacuated and all students are safe. Parents are being told that they can pick up their students at the Mesquite Rodeo at 1818 Rodeo Drive. 

Horn High School and Thompson Elementary School remain on lockdown. Parents are urged not to go pick up their children at these campuses at this time.
