With a big grass fire blazing near Lake Meredith, about 30 miles from Dumas, North Texas firefighters are heading to the Panhandle to help.

Commanders have requested crews and equipment through the Texas Intra-State Fire Mutual Aid System.

Among the the personnel responding are crews from Dallas, Allen, Paris, McKinney and Frisco. They could be assigned for up to a week.

The Command Post is in Moore County, about six hours from Dallas-Fort Worth.

As of this morning, the Texas A&M Forest Service says the Blue Creek Fire has blackened 4,500 acres and is considered about 60% contained.
