DALLAS (KRLD) - Despite the multitude of messages North Texas citizens have heard from state, county, and city leaders, the mayor of one of the biggest cities in the area, is calling for unity.  His message: Choose to Stay Home.

Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere knows how tough it's been on his citizens to hear slightly different instructions on what to do to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"My goal is over the next few days to work collaboratively with our regional cities," LaRosiliere said.  "So that we get to the place where we're sending one message to everyone in the DFW region."

"This is just not right and we've got to take care of how we communicate to all our citizens."

Plano, for example, lies within Collin and Denton counties.   Denton County has a mandatory "Stay at Home" order that starts at 11:59 P.M. Wednesday night.  Collin County also is under a "Stay at Home" order over the next seven days.  In Denton County, certain businesses are considered "non-essential" and should close or work entirely from home.  In Collin County, all businesses are considered "essential."

In an effort to simplify and unify the message, Mayor LaRosiliere wants his residents, and all of North Texas, to "Choose to Stay Home."

When LaRosiliere's daughters returned from a trip to New York, he chose to self-quarantine for 14 days as a precaution.  He says he's not asking North Texas to do anything he wouldn't do.

"Who is a loved one you're willing to stay home for?  That's going to be our call to action and our decision point," said LaRosiliere.  "And if you can't stay home, then exercise smart behavior."
