DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Police in Plano are asking any witnesses to a deadly crash on Highway 75 between 15th Street and Park Boulevard on Tuesday. One man was killed when his vehicle was struck by some metal debris on the freeway.

"A piece of debris, which was a portion of a commercial vehicle leaf spring, became airborne and landed on the hood of the victim's car...then went through the windshield and struck the driver," said Officer David Tilley with the Plano Police Department. That Toyota Camry then hit the center median and crashed into the grass. The driver, 57-year-old Paul Hoa Chau of Plano, was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.

Investigators are trying to track down the source of the metal spring.

"Is this a piece of debris that was already on the road that had come off of a commercial vehicle...that someone had run over and it became airborne? Or did this detach from a commercial vehicle that was traveling down the road...and most likely the driver didn't even know that this took place? Or it's possible it came out of a bed of a truck and landed in the roadway and bounced up and hit the vehicle," Officer Tilley said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen anything in the vicinity of Highway 75 between 15th Street and Park Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon shortly after 2 o'clock to call the department's Traffic Unit at 972-208-8055.
