MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - Raytheon is adding a new manufacturing facility at its headquarters in McKinney.

"We will have 500 new jobs in McKinney within the next five years," said Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems President Roy Azevedo.

The defense contractor's facility in McKinney deals with surveillance and reconnaissance systems. Raytheon's corporate headquarters have been in McKinney since 2013. The company is McKinney's largest employer with more than 3,000 employees.

"Now, they're going to invest in a significant expansion of the campus and renovation of existing buildings," said McKinney Mayor George Fuller.

The additional jobs will have a big impact on the city's economy.

"There's a lot of supporting jobs that happen, and there's money spent in the community by those families. The impact is exponential," Mayor Fuller said.

Raytheon executives considered several factors in choosing McKinney.

"First and foremost - the talented work force that we have and the amount of talent that is available still to hire," said  Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems President Roy Azevedo. "We have a fantastic partnership with McKinney. I can't say enough good things about the way that Raytheon and McKinney work together."

Work on the new facility will start later this year and should be finished by the end of 2020.
