DALLAS (KRLD) - The Chief Justice for The Supreme Court of Texas today extended the suspension of residential evictions across the state until at least April 30.

Justice Nathan Hecht’s updated order is fluid and can be reviewed again if it looks like the shelter-in-place restrictions across the state are still in place by the end of the month.

“Executive leaders decided we should have stay at home. It’s kind of hard to stay at home when you don’t have a home,” said Hecht.

The order provides special exceptions in some cases. For instance, if a landlord wants to evict a criminal or finds there is criminal activity taking place at the property.

The order does not apply to businesses yet, although Hecht said that is something that can be reviewed at another date.

“We hope this will give people a chance to get through this, take stock and try to play way ahead,” said Hecht.
