DALLAS (KRLD) - Drummer Neil Peart of the legendary Canadian prog rock band Rush has died at the age of 67.

Considered in technical circles to be one of the best of his craft of all time, Peart had quietly been battling brain cancer for three years, a spokesperson said. His publicist told the CBC he died in California on Tuesday.

Peart joined Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in Rush in 1974 and became the primary lyricist for a band that made music that defied boundaries. Their final tour was in 2015.

Peart is survived by his wife Carrie and daughter Olivia.
