GARLAND (1080 KRLD) - A man who Garland Police say caused a deadly hit and run accident has been arrested.

27-year-old Edgar Ugalde turned himself in Tuesday, after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

The accident occurred at Jupiter Road and Forest Lane last week, when police say a black Ram Truck sped through the intersection and smashed into the side of a Toyota 4Runner. 47-year-old mother of 2 Joyce Cawis was killed.

Pedro Barineau with Garland police says Ugalde got out of the truck, jumped into another car and sped off.

"If he had stayed at the scene this could have turned out to be a completely different type of investigation. But because he fled and the victim ended up dying, it turns it into a criminal charge of failure to stop and render aid," Barineau says.

No bond has been set at this time.
