Teen: Voices In My Head Told Me To Stab Woman At Arlington Park
ARLINGTON (KRLD) - An Arlington teen is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after police say he stabbed a woman at random in a park.
Police say they were called to Veterans Park at around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday after a 60-year-old woman claimed she was stabbed by an unknown assailant.
The woman had cuts from an edged weapon, possibly a piece of glass, police say.
Lt. Chris Cook says officers quickly swarmed the area and located the teen that was responsible for the stabbing.
"We don't believe he knew the woman. He told responding officers that voices in his head told him to attack her," Cook says.
He says the teen was transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation, and when he is released, will be charged with aggravated assault.
"He was known to police. We have dealt with him in the past. He is also known to the mental health community, he'd been in and out of treatment," Cooks says.
He says the department will be working with other agencies to see if they missed anything in the case that could have prevented this. The teen had been released from JPS six days prior to the attack.
The woman is expected to survive but remains in serious condition.
