AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he will meet with state and federal health officials Thursday in Austin to receive an update on coronavirus.

Through Thursday morning, the Centers for Disease Control had confirmed six cases of coronavirus in Texas. The six had been in quarantine at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland and are now in isolation at hospitals.

Abbott's office says the meeting will take place at the State Operations Center.

"We will look for a very realistic assessment of what the danger is, and whether or not there really is an imminent danger," he says.

Of the six confirmed cases in Texas, one person had been evacuated from China. The other five had been quarantined on a cruise ship in Japan where coronavirus was detected.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says the patients "have not interacted with the public" since arriving in Texas. DSHS says all six will stay in isolation until they test negative, and the agency says it is working with the CDC to monitor the outbreak.

"There are no other cases in Texas, and these cases do not change the risk of infection for people in San Antonio or other parts of Texas," DSHS wrote in a statement.
