HOUSTON (KRLD) - A couple of old buddies from Texas A&M will open for George Strait at Rodeo Houston on March 17.

Rodeo officials announced Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett will open for Strait at the concert-only performance, which will close out the 2019 event.

In a statement, Rodeo Houston President and CEO Joel Cowley said, "Bringing both Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett back to the Rodeo Houston stage for a Texas-sized performance with George Strait will be an incredible experience for our fans."

The friendship between Keen and Lovett goes back decades to their time as students at A&M.  Both are familiar faces at Rodeo Houston.  Keen last played the event in 2006, while Lovett last performed at Rodeo Houston in 2002.

The Rodeo Houston show will be among the few Texas concerts George Strait will play in 2019.  The full lineup of Rodeo Houston performers will be announced in early January.  Tickets for all shows go on sale January 10.
