AUSTIN (KRLD) - Texans turned away from donating supplies to the overcrowded border detention facilities may get another chance.

Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy whose district includes Austin and San Antonio filed legislation that he calls the Charitable Donations Freedom Act.

“We’re overwhelmed…more people than space and Border Patrol and ICE and the Office of Refugee Resettlement, those guys are overwhelmed and so this was an attempt to give the American People the ability to do what they do best, which is step into the breach and help people when they need to be helped.”

Roy’s legislation would amend the Federal mandate known as the Anti-deficiency Act which prevents donations to government agencies.
