DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Shades of the Old West during what started out as a robbery at a 7-Eleven in central Oak Cliff last night.

The owner of a 7-Eleven had hired a West Texas cowboy to act as a security guard watching out for shoplifters.

The Dallas Police Department says a man had come in before and caused some trouble. When he returned to rob the store, he got into a fight with that security guard. That man ended up stabbing the guard in the back with a screwdriver. But, that guard ended up getting a hold of a rope on the counter.

Sergeant Warren Mitchell says the guard hogtied the robber and held him until Dallas Police arrived.

It's something you might have seen in the 19th century, not the 21st. Sgt. Mitchell says he's never seen anything like this in his 31 years on the force.

The cowboy ended up getting treatment for some cuts on his back from the screwdriver.

Sgt. Mitchell also says police do not recommend anyone confront a robber like he did. That's the police department's job.
