PLANO (1080 KRLD) - The city of Plano is preparing for crowds Friday evening at Haggard Park for the city's Christmas tree lighting. The party at Haggard Park begins at 5 p.m.

The theme is "Dickens in Downtown Plano," and the city will have free s'mores, an ice carver, free "ice fights," a blacksmith and free horse-drawn carriage rides. Central Market will provide free s'mores.

"There will be a lot of Instagram-able moments, a whole of places to take pictures and fun stuff to do, fun stuff for adults, fun for kids," says the Plano Arts and Events Department's Amy Pagan.

The Masonic lodge in Downtown Plano is celebrating its 125th anniversary Friday night and will offer birthday cake and pictures with Santa, Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Future.

"We've just got a ton of really fun activities, a lot to do, a lot to see," Pagan says.

As Downtown Plano has grown, Pagan says crowds at Haggard Park have grown. More people are living in the city center, and more businesses have opened. Fourteen Eighteen Coffee will be hosting a "coffee and cocoa walk," with free drinks at six stations.

"I definitely feel like Downtown has come alive," says Fourteen Eighteen Coffee Operational Manager Kristin Crabtree. "We're always seeing so many people walking down the streets, going into shops."

The party at Haggard Park begins at 5:00 p.m. Friday. The tree lighting is at 7:00 p.m.
