DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A trial begins today in Dallas where a man is accused of beating a trans-gender woman about a month before she was murdered by another man.

In April, Muhlaysia Booker was badly beaten at an East Oak Cliff apartment complex, and left with a concussion and a broken wrist.

Edward Thomas is on trial for aggravated assault and jury selection begins today.

This is not connected Booker's shooting death which came five weeks later.

Booker's body was found in Far East Dallas. Another man, Kendrell Lyles, is now charged in the murder but no trial date has been set.
