FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - TEXRail operators will start saying “all aboard” on January 5th.

“We’re going to do a VIP train on New Year’s Eve, and then we’ll start service that same week — January 5th, on a Saturday,” says Paul Ballard, president and CEO of Trinity Metro.

TEXRail will connect downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport via North Richland Hills and Grapevine in less than an hour.

Trains will operate 22 hours a day; so no matter what time your flight is, you’ll be able to take TEXRail and arrive on time.

“We’ll have the first train leaving out of the Texas & Pacific station at 3:30 in the morning. Then the last train leaves the airport around 1:00 in the morning,” Ballard said at the monthly meeting of the Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition. “They’ll run every 30 minutes during the peak hours and then hourly other times.”

Ballard says TEXRail will be a huge time-saver.

“If you’re at the airport, it’s eight minutes to downtown Grapevine. If you want to go to GrapeFest, it’s eight minutes from the airport and 48 minutes from this building (the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center),” Ballard says.

Especially compared to parking at the airport, TEXRail will be a bargain.

“It’s basically $2.50 for a one-way ticket (and a) $5 pass for all-day bus and rail,” Ballard says.

Security aboard the trains will be of utmost importance.

“There will be a conductor out in the train compartment walking through on every train,” says Ballard. “We have police officers under contract who will be on a number of the trains.”
