DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott leaves Tuesday for an "economic development mission" to Israel and Switzerland. The Texas Economic Development Corporation is paying for the ten day trip.

“Companies continue to invest in the Lone Star State because of the business climate cultivated by our state’s leaders. Governor Abbott’s commitment to engaging with CEO’s and executives around the world is playing a pivotal role in ensuring Texas remains a global economic powerhouse, creating a more prosperous future our great state," Texas Economic Development Corporation CEO Robert Allen said.

Gov. Abbott's office says this will be his second trip to both Israel and Switzerland since becoming governor.

"Texas stands apart as the epicenter of innovation, business development, and economic prosperity, and I am committed to sharing this story of success around the globe. The Lone Star State's reputation of excellence is known globally, and we will continue to build upon our record of success by fostering even stronger partnerships both domestically and internationally. I look forward to the opportunities this trip brings to strengthen our cultural and economic ties worldwide," Abbott wrote in a statement.

Abbott's office says he will tour businesses and meet with public officials and executives during the trip. His office says Texas ranks fourth among U.S states in exports to Israel, with $953.5 million in 2018. Texas ranked third in imports with $1.5 billion in imports.

In 2019, a federal judge blocked enforcement of a state law requiring companies to sign a pledge not to boycott Israel in order to win a contract from a government agency. During last year's session, the legislature passed an update narrowing the law. That version only applies to companies with more than ten full-time workers and contracts worth more than $100,000.

After the stop in Israel, Abbott and the Texas Economic Development Corporation will attend the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
