DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - There's a big controversy over a mile-and-a-half stretch of freeway in Dallas where many don't even recognize its name.

It's called I-345 but hardly anybody knows that even though it carries 180,000 cars a day. It's the freeway running along the east side of downtown from I-30 up to Woodall Rodgers.

To discuss options, Tex-DOT is holding informational meetings, there was one last night, there's another one tonight at CityPlace on Haskell and then another one next week.

Some want to have it removed entirely and replaced by six-lane boulevards to carry the north-south traffic. Those advocates believe that will boost the economy of the southern sector of Dallas.

But Dallas Senator Royce West has come out against it, believing that many commuters would simply re-route to other freeways, bypassing his constituents and their businesses in the southern part of Dallas.
